is that glassberg or Miller update new? I've seen this show mentioned by many as an all timer, and I've always thought the available sources maybe weren't bringing me the optimal sound to "get" what everyone else was getting...

which is to say I've always thought of it as a "good" show but not a "great" one...given you say it's your all time fave (and any time a poster here sez a show is a #1 i make sure to give it a good hard listen, b/s it;s bound to be at least excellent...) i will have to try one of these sources again....5/1/81 and 9/25/81 are also in of my top 10 shows...great year all around, '81.

PS 9/25 and 9/26 are another two I was lucky enough to be at - great shows both, and very different from each other. Do you know a good source for 09/25? I have Charlie Miller's board (which he notes was the best he could do with a horrible recording) and a slightly shrill audience, but I don't have one that I like.

What I remember best about 09/25 were the break-outs (at least on that tour - I don't think this was the first show they played them, though I could be wrong) Might as Well and Cumberland Blues, and a great Fire on the Mountain. Then there was that crazy 400 mile drive from Lehigh to Buffalo ...

Wow--VERY jealous you saw the Lehigh show....long one of my favorites.

Far as I know, there really is no good source existing of that show. Just one of those unfortunates we have to live with.

In a thread recently about "wish" upgrades for sound I listed that 9/25/81 right behind 4/3/82 as shows I wish could magically appear with upgraded sound.

Will def. check out the new Miller SBD you mentioned for 3/9/81. So rare for an East coast audience to stay quiet during Stella...that musta been nice!

They're both relatively new - since they started putting up new ones again in the last several months. I think Charlie's board is a lot better than the previous Betty board, and as far as I can remember the MOTB Glassberg replaced another, hugely inferior audience recording.

PS someone recommended a new aud of 05/01/1981 just a week or so ago, and I've listened to a lot since. Great show. I have no doubt that my preference for 03/09/81 is ll about having been there. Aaah, memories . . . MSG was completely and utterly silent during parts of Stella Blue, and I had never seen anything like that before in my life (and rarely since). Peace out, brother. I clock out soon ...
